About Carlotta Adriaansz

Carlotta Adriaansz is a Dutch contemporary artist whose paintings explore the psychology of transformation, identity and emotional resilience.

Rather than portraying individual people, Adriaansz constructs psychological spaces in which inner change becomes visible. Anonymous female figures form the human anchor of her compositions, while expressive abstraction, layered surfaces and fragmented forms allow psychological states to emerge through colour, movement and texture.

Her work explores what happens when familiar structures begin to shift: the tension between vulnerability and strength, disintegration and emergence, letting go and becoming.

Her artistic foundation began at the age of twelve under the mentorship of Italian painter Franco Soro, whose practice was rooted in the Florentine tradition of contemporary figurative painting. His approach demonstrated how principles such as anatomical accuracy, observation of light and composition could provide a technical foundation for artistic freedom rather than determine a fixed style. This philosophy continues to underpin Adriaansz’s work today.

Alongside painting, she studied Architecture at Delft University of Technology and the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her architectural background remains visible in the spatial organisation, balance and underlying structure of her compositions. She later further developed her figurative practice through advanced courses at the Dutch Atelier of Realist Art, for instance by training from Lucas Bononi of Grand Central Atelier, New York.

Adriaansz works primarily in large-scale figurative painting, combining disciplined observation with increasingly free and gestural abstraction. Her recent bodies of work investigate transformation not as a return to a former state, but as a process through which new forms of identity can emerge.

Since establishing her professional studio, her work has been presented internationally in London, Paris and Doha. In 2025 she presented the Awakening collection in a solo summer exhibition in the historic artists’ town of Brielle, The Netherlands, followed by participation in the Qatar International Art Festival in Doha. Her work is held in private collections in Europe. Carlotta Adriaansz lives and works in The Netherlands.
