The story of relief when the façade finally falls away.
Beneath explores the profound relief that follows the collapse of the façade. When the illusion can no longer be sustained, there is no choice but to reveal what has always been underneath. In that vulnerability lies an unexpected freedom—the quiet peace of no longer having to uphold appearances.
The background subtly “melts” and drips, as though the scene itself is disintegrating, symbolizing the fragility of the illusion. The flowers in the foreground, seemingly soft and pink at first, begin to shift upon closer viewing. Upon reflection, may not be flowers at all, but something more sinister: perhaps flesh.
This blurring of the boundary between the beautiful and the grotesque underscores the idea that nothing is as it seems. Behind the veneer of happiness, everyone own’s more complex truth resides. And this complex truth holds a beauty in itself.

The body is painted in academically realistic detail, contrasting sharply with the abstract background and the overlying layers, what fade and dissolve into the surface. This tension reflects the work's themes of identity and transformation.
Built up in layers of acrylic and oil paint, with the canvas texture and drip-applied underlayers visible beneath the translucent top layer. This layered construction mirrors the themes of transformation and duality central to the work.
Museum-quality construction: premium cotton or linen canvas on a sturdy 4cm deep aluminum frame, with hand-painted edges that complete the composition. A protective UV coating preserves color depth and protects against sunlight damage.

Optional, you are always warmly welcome to visit my atelier in Vaassen, Gelderland, in the Netherlands, to view any painting of your choice in person before making a purchase.
Step 1 - Art Purchase Agreement
We begin by signing an Art Purchase Agreement, formalizing the sale of the agreed artwork(s).This agreement protects you as a buyer, guaranteeing delivery of your painting(s) with full legal certainty. A digital signing option is available for your convenience.
Step 2 - Invoice & Payment
Once the agreement is signed, you will receive an invoice with full payment details and payment link. Payment can be made by debit or credit card. All prices are inclusive of VAT and exclude shipping costs and framing.
- We understand that transferring a large amount can feel like a big step — especially if we haven't worked together before. That's why we offer an option with added security for the buyer: payment can also be arranged through an Escrow Company. Funds are held by a trusted third party (the escrow company) and released to Carlotta Adriaansz Art only once the artwork has been delivered undamaged.
Step 3 - Shipping
Your artwork will be carefully prepared for (inter)national shipment, by a logistics company specialized in the safe, fully insured transport of fine art. Each painting is packed in protective materials and secured in a wooden crate. International shipping takes 15–25 days, with progress updates provided.
Step 4 - Receiving Your Artwork
Every artwork is delivered ready to display, mounted on a high-quality aluminum backframe, 4 cm deep, with the canvas made of premium cotton or linen stretched over it. The edges of the canvas are wrapped around the frame and finished with paint and a protective top coat, meaning the artwork is ready for display without the need for an additional (decorative) frame. Each piece is hand-signed by the artist and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, included with every painting.
